Philanthropy, funding and partners

The Project Office › Cedwyn Estate › Funding and partners

Build a transparent financing plan that begins with founder-funded research and feasibility, and adds partners or grants only where the work genuinely fits their purpose and rules.

Founder philanthropy and ring-fenced workstreams

Proposed funding model

The working intent is to fund early work from personal resources and treat it as philanthropy. The plan spans four separate workstreams, each with its own scope, approval and cost ledger:

WorkstreamEarly allowable scopeControl
UK legal workLegal advice, research, records, court/document fees within a written budgetSeparate counsel instructions, deadlines and spending cap
Argentina feasibilityGIS, local legal review, architect/engineer consultations, environmental screening and business caseNo land purchase or construction commitment at feasibility stage
Wales virtual tourSource preparation, measured reconstruction, accessibility, 3D/VR scope and hostingSource provenance, intellectual-property review and defined acceptance test
Online presenceWebsite, domains, hosting, preservation, translation, security and accessibilityMaintain a register of live services, owners, renewal dates and recurring cost

This planning description does not assume that third-party funds are secured, that a charitable entity exists, or that any expenditure qualifies for tax relief. Amounts, annual caps and payment authorisations must be recorded privately before commitments are made.

Grant eligibility screen

Verify each call before application
  • Chubut cultural-space funding: the linked notice is a previous call. Monitor for a new open round and confirm whether the applicant, space and expenses qualify.
  • Activar Patrimonio: assess only if a qualifying museum/heritage institution and an eligible applicant route can be established.
  • Global EbA Fund small-size grants: the 8th call advertises a 26 October 2026 deadline. Consider it only for a genuinely eligible ecosystem-based adaptation package with an appropriate applicant; do not repurpose the house build as an environmental project.
  • Patagonia International Grants: focus is environmental campaigning, not general museum development or capital land/building costs. Treat as a likely poor fit for construction.

A funding register must record call status, deadline, eligible applicant, geography, capital restrictions, match-funding, reporting burden and written outcome. Never include a grant in the baseline before award.

Finance controls and next actions

Set before spending
  1. Approve separate cost centres for the four workstreams above.
  2. For each proposed spend, record purpose, supplier, quote, currency, tax treatment question, payment date, source of funds and acceptance output.
  3. Separate capital, one-off research, recurring digital costs and operating costs.
  4. Build three cases for the Argentina project: digital-only, existing-building adaptation and new-build land option.
  5. Do not publish donation receipts, charitable status or tax deductibility until legally confirmed.
  6. Report monthly on budget, actuals, commitments, forecast and stage-gate decisions.

First approach pack

Before requesting meetings or support
  1. Prepare a one-page bilingual outline: purpose, history, proposed public benefit, present stage, what is and is not decided, and the first questions.
  2. Start with a listening meeting, not a funding request. Ask what local priorities, constraints and existing initiatives the concept should respect.
  3. Offer specific low-burden collaboration options: source review, a school-resource review, a public talk, a cultural programme or an introduction to a qualified local professional.
  4. Record contact date, public contact route, consent to follow up, next step and status in the private partner register.
  5. Use names, logos and statements of endorsement publicly only after written permission.
